Why Monkeys By
The Sea?

We believe the world is ready for great tasting alternatives to seafood, because we passionately love our oceans. We believe we can turn our diets into a force for good to protect Mother Ocean.

Monkeys are curious, adventurous, and playful. They have a real nose for what’s good for them.

We as humans should be smart about our food and learn from the Monkeys!

…when hungry monkeys get together on a beach; they will start nibbling away on seaweed! It’s because they instinctively know that algae are full of goodness and protein their bodies need.

Of course they still eat their bananas too! Eating bananas and protein packed seaweed is the reason monkeys have become so smart. This combination of the best from the soil and sea, is what has inspired us to do the same in creating our products.

Monkeys By The Sea looks beyond the sea by getting the best taste and nutrition, sourcing the very best from plants, both from the land and from the water. There are over 510 million square kilometers of area on the surface of the Earth, but less than 30% of this is covered by land. The rest is Ocean.

We cannot source the world’s need for protein from the land alone. Nor can we deplete our oceans as they are the source of all life. We need to find a balance.

Do you believe you have an ingredient we should use? Let us know here:

Quinoa: a very nutritionally dense superfood because it has all nine of the essential amino acids. On top of that, it’s tasty too!

Rice: one of nature’s oldest plants to be cultivated by mankind. Often underestimated in its versatility as a food ingredient.

Pea Protein: no, these are not the ‘mushy peas’ some Brits like to eat with their fish fingers! Pea protein is an ingredient made by extracting the protein from yellow peas. On top of that it is, a high-quality protein and a great source of iron.

Teff: a gluten free ancient grain that originated in North Africa, but is now also cultivated in Europe. Teff is an excellent source of iron and fiber.

Monkeys by the Sea uses seawater from the Oosterschelde, a protected marine reserve in Zeeland – known as one of the cleanest waters in Europe (south-west of the Netherlands) Before use in the products, the seawater undergoes a patented purification process.

In addition, we use the most tasty and nutritious varieties of micro algae and seaweed. We work with cultivated algae which are rich in protein, healthy fats and other nutrients. If the monkeys ate it and got smarter along the way, so should we!
